I have been caught a couple of times for zig zag trail in my car, but getting caught for drunken flying is taking it to a whole new level. 28 pilots have been found to have consumed alcohol prior to flying the planes, and kingfisher, being true to its name tops the list. Actually speaking, i know a few people who go drunk to their work place, but the worst damage they can do is to write code that is illegible to the computer. I have heard stories of surgeons who take a peg or two prior to performing their acts. While the near ones are praying outside the theatre, our hero would be busy gulping down some vodka and see the world in different shades.
Why they do it ?
1. You tend to get more gutsy to face the world
2. The world starts appearing better and beautiful
3. It is indeed thrilling, and you no more are a mere mortal
4. You feel more in control, though quite hypocritic
5. You dont get caught, unless some wise guy orders a sudden audit
What can be done to curb it ?
Actually speaking, I dont think it can be curbed.
Am waiting to see, if these pilots get to fly again ! If they do, they would do nose dives again for sure !

Lets be honest. As long as the job is done, why should anyone care
. In the olden days, the greeks used to have watered wine when on wars. It used to keep them on their toes, does that constitute as drinking on duty as well? Sentries used to drink a little bit, because it heightens the senses, what about that?
As long as the job gets done without any unnecessary risks (like a nosedive or a roll), I dont see the big issue here.
@kida….a pretty neat example of sentries…i guess even our high “spirited” presentations and CPs also fall under this category ! i think it will be fun…to drive a plane….tried it on a flight simulator game last nite
Lets not think of curbing it. Can’t even think in my wildest dreams
I would rather suggest one or two pints a day before coming to office. This would rather increase productivity. You can increase the quality of deliverables(techie guys), you can sell yourelf more(mktg guys). So if at all you plan a company, then make it as a mandate and specify the same during appraisals.
@jaggu…we need more entrepreneurs and policy makers who share your thought lines…waise mind sharing the details of ur boss ? will suggest him to do wht u r doing anyways
I remember my early engineering days. We used to gulp one or two pegs of rum/vodka in the room and then go out to play football in the rain. Believe me, that is still one of the best experiences I have ever had.
Besides I have also studied while drunk and faired well. It peps you up.
European countries have liquor (or at least beer) served in the office canteens. They dont see it as a taboo. The problem with we Indians is that we dont understand the difference between drinking and excessive drinking.
